DESIGNPLAY

Shortlisted entry Forgotten Spaces North West 2013, Hop to it by Designplay Architecture & Design, Avenham Street, Preston, Lancashire. Computer generated visual showing scheme from Avenham Street showing micro brewery, and off licence at street level and greenhouse above.

We are proud to announce that Designplay has been shortlisted for the RIBA Forgotten Spaces North West competition sponsored by the Eric Wright Group, Booths and Lancashire County Council. The competition aims to bring attention to forgotten and under used areas of our cities; this year Preston was the focus of the competition.

Our proposal, Hop To It, was a vertically integrated microbrewery and greenhouse to be used in the production of hops and other food crops to be used in the locality. The greenhouse would use waste heat from the brewery which in-turn would be powered by waste products from both processes. Our proposals will be on display at the old Post Office Building in Preston city centre, where an exhibition showcasing all the finalists’ work will be held in November sponsored by Ibstock.
